What’s up?
Hey Cutters
It’s been awhile, but I’ve been busy as hell. Let me take you back to my trip to Hawaii where I was a little tentative about the tag match I had that Wednesday in Hawaii for Hawaiian Championship Wrestling. Why, well for I was going to be working with three of the best wrestlers in the world, Japan’s ... Great Muta, Kojima (one of the hot new young stars of Japan) and the Stinger. As most of you know I have only been in the ring once in the last two and a half years (yes, it's been that long). So it might be safe to say that I could be just a little rusty. Anyway, everything turned out way better than I expected. There were a few bumps in the road but overall everyone was very happy with it... I actually took quite a few bumps in the ring and was surprised how good I felt afterwards. Of course I went back to hotel and iced my WHOLE BODY for a couple of hours but what's new with that ...
Nothing...
The bottom line is I was up at 8am the next morning to go surfing. I'll come back to that, though.
It was great to be back in the ring with Sting. A guy who without a doubt I have had some of the best matches of my career with. Sting hasn't been in the ring all that much either and we both agreed we were both about a half a step off, but it was nothing we couldn't set right in week or two. We both decided, we had at least one more good run in us... who knows... did someone say something about Hulk Hogan and Ted Turner... very interesting…WWE? Never say never.
At the show I came across my boy Bill Apter. Bill has photographed and written about more of the boys *(wrestlers) than anyone alive. Bill and I are putting together a huge wrestling convention in Tampa surrounded around FCW and other huge wrestling superstars to be announced... for 2005. I'll keep you posted on that. Also at the show was Hall of Famer Don Morocco. I never met Don, so it was a real honor. Also on the card were my boys Rikishi, Tonga Kid, D’Lo, Disco and Brian Adams who had to act as a shoot commissioner. One of the boys (wrestlers) a local named Black Diamond told me I was the reason he got into the business ... he said I inspired him to follow his dreams and used the Diamond in his name to honor me. How cool is that?
Earlier at the hotel I met Rikishi's nephew Sonny, he's one of those little kids you just know, someday is going to be a big star in our business. Later that night as I was entering the building some one asked me if I would take a picture with them and I said sure. I looked over and saw Sonny and I said hey Sonny I want to get a picture with you later. His eyes lit up and he said you want a picture with me Diamond... I said hell yeah... you're going to be big star in our business some day aren't you kid ... I want to get a picture of you now so you remember who was the first to say it. You should have seen his face ... it reminded me of the Joe Green Pepsi commercial ... priceless. The funny thing is I meant it. Pictures on site at www.diamonddallaspage.com .
I want to thank Ryan, Kevin and Mike for hooking me up while I was on the Island. Mike hooked me up with David Carvalho. David came by with his nephew Chris to pick me up to go surfing. The first place he took me to was a locals-only place along the same lines as the one Titus took JT and me to when we went surfing in Kauai, but wind had blown out the waves. So we kept searching until we found a good swell. Let me tell you it always pays to have one of the locals on your side when it comes to surfing. David, Chris and I became fast bros and I recommend if you’re ever in Hollalulu and you want to surf.
That weekend I got home and went straight to ComicCon to see my boy Barry Levine at Dark Horse Comics. Barry had set up several meetings for me with other directors and producers. ComicCon has taken the concept of a Star Trek convention to a whole other level. George Lucas alone leased out 10,000 square feet where he had a starfighter.
The following weekend I wrestled for Rick Bassman at UPW with a young kid I believe will some day make it in this business, known as “The Miz”. You might remember him if you watched the Real World. He was in the tenth season and is constantly on those Real World/Road Rules Challenges. UPW puts on a first class show with videos, entrance music and a light show. It reminded me of a mini-WWE. I was scheduled an appearance only, but went to the ring in my gear anyway. I was doing a textbook DDP type promo when I was interrupted by their main manager “The Swag”. Swag and I went back and forth for some pretty entertaining banter when I was attacked by Adam Pearce and Big Babi Slymm from behind. This brought out the Miz and we started an impromptu tag match which ended with everyone getting banged…except the Miz. We got a great reaction and my body felt really good for my second entrance back in the ring. The Miz and I left through the crowd in typical DDP style. Man, they have some hot lookin chicks in that crowd.
I did my second corporate Inspirational Speaking gig last Monday in Atlanta for the Affinititi Golf Partners. My massage therapist Terri Lange is now responsible for booking me on two speaking engagements. I want to thank Terri for all her help and Steve Willy for bringing me in to speak to all the troops. Want to book Me, me…DDP to speak to your company of organization? Check out the site for details.
My next match will be on August 27th in New Jersey for the CyberSpace Wrestling Federation. Look out, Kanyon. I’m really looking forward to getting back into the ring with Kanyon. From what I understand, it may just be his retirement match and I want to send him out with a bang.
While in Jersey, I’ll be celebrating the 21st anniversary of Tony P’s 29th birthday. Then I am back to L.A. and then off to Iraq. So if you think I was busy before, I’ll have even more to tell you when I get back.
